How to Apply Borders and Shading in MS-Word Document?
Borders and shading help to emphasize the text in a document. Borders are lines that are formed around a specified text, paragraphs or even the whole page. Shading is a background colour or pattern that fills behind a specified text or paragraph.
Steps:
  • Click on the Format option in the Menu bar.
  • Click on the Borders and Shading option in the dropdown menu. The Borders and Shading dialog box appears. This box has three tabs. The Borders tab helps you to choose a border for the selected text or paragraph. The Page Border tab allows you to choose a border for the entire page, while the Shading tab provides you with options to choose a shading to be given behind the selected text or paragraph.
  • Click on the Border tab in this box to see the various options available for borders as shown in the figure
  • Make suitable selections for the Setting, Style, Color and Width options. The likely effect of the selected options is displayed in the Preview window.
  • Select an Appropriate option from the Apply to: box. The border will be applied to the selected text or the entire paragraph containing the current position of the cursor, depending on the Text or Paragraph option selected from this box.
  • Now, click on the Shading tab in the dialog box to choose the type of shading.
  • Select the Fill color and Pattern Style from the options available in the respective boxes.
  • Again select the appropriate option from the Apply to: box.
  • Click on the OK button.
The chosen style of Border and Shading gets applied to the selected text or paragraph or pages as per the chosen option.
