Royal Enfield is back in business with its brand new roadster style bike, the Interceptor 650. Now, the motor critics already love this machine with Daily Mirror branding the bike as ?the perfect motorcycle?, while Over Drive labeled it as the ?Game Changer.? Royal Enfield came out with the advertisement of the bike almost three months ago, and once you have a look at it, it turns into love at first sight. Let?s know more about the motorbike.
Designed in Britain at Royal Enfield's development centre in Leicestershire, UK, The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a 270° parallel twin retro-styled motorcycle, it is the first modern twin cylinder motorcycle developed by Royal Enfield. The model has gone on sale and has two versions: the "Interceptor", a conventionally-styled roadster, and the "Continental GT", a café racer. The bike will be produced in huge numbers and will be marketed in India, Europe and the United States.
Engine: The heart of the machine
The Royal Enfield 650 Twins are based on the brand new 649 cc, air and oil cooled, parallel-twin engine that belts out 47 bhp at 7250 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm. About 80 per cent of the torque is available from 2500 rpm and a flat torque curve results in ample power all the way till about 6000 rpm. Sending power to the rear wheels is a 6-speed gearbox that comes with a slipper clutch, for a lighter lever operation. The bikes are capable of speeds in excess of 160 kmph.
From the ad we see that the bike is fun to ride on twisty back roads, urban jungle, and highways. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650 have the conventional 41 mm telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers for the rear suspension. Braking is handled by a 320 mm disc at the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear. Both bikes have a dual-channel ABS as standard. The bikes will also ride on large 18-inch wheels wire-spooked wheels.
The conventionally-styled roadster has a rounded 13.7 liter saddle tank with a Royal Enfield classic badge and a Monza-style fuel cap. The fuel cap comes in your hand when you go for a refuel and that might be a drawback for the bike. The roadster in unlike any other Royal Enfield bike; with a 650cc twins it races like a bullet, the handling is sweet and overall the machine will make in fall in love with you once you ride it. The Interceptor is priced at around 3 lakh INR or 4300$.
