Crime is everywhere in the world, there are good guys and then there are the bad guys. The game of ?the thief and the police? is a legend and the legend goes on. Some places we have a low crime rate whereas in some places the rate of illegal activities seem to reach a new level, one such country is Mexico; this Latin American country has registered a worst crime rate in 2018 since 21 years. Let?s see the reasons and facts about these figures in Mexico.
Crime is one of the most urgent concerns of Mexico; the Mexican drug trafficking kingpins play a major role in the flow of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana transiting between Latin America and the United States. Drug trafficking has led to corruption, which has had a deleterious effect on Mexico's Federal Representative Republic. Drug trafficking and organized crime has also been a major source of violent crime in Mexico.
Mexico has experienced increasingly high crime rates, especially in major urban centers especially in the cities of Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez, and the states of Baja California, Durango, Sinaloa, Guerrero, Chihuahua, Michoacán, Tamaulipas, and Nuevo León.
The month of July, 2018 became the most violent month in Mexico in 21 years. According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System 2,599 malicious homicides were recorded in the month of July. This year Mexico has registered 46 homicides per day and so far it is the deadliest year for Mexico since 2011. From January to July 2018 there have been more than 16,000 murders.
The year 2017 was also a bloody year in the history of Mexico with 31,174 people killed, majority by firearm. The homicide rate was 25 per 100,000 inhabitants, i.e. higher than Colombia and Nicaragua.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that, "Pursuing money from organized crime is more important than stopping drug traffickers because it is in the economic strength where they have the capacity to corrupt and operate."
Due to crime reaching a critical level in Mexico, the tourism of the country has suffered. A significant number of United States citizens visit Mexico; the U.S. State Department estimates it at 15 to 16 million per year. Tourists visiting Mexico may face a number of problems related to criminal activity, including extortion by law enforcement, kidnappings, taxi robberies, etc.
