When two leaders of states in tension for over 65 years come together for a summit, either it is war or it is peace. This time it is peace, yes peace out! For North and South Korea over the 6 decade long Korean War. 

The summit of Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-In was the first between the leaders of North and South Korea in more than a decade. The leaders of North and South Korea agreed on Friday to pursue the ?complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula? and work toward declaring an official end this year to the 1950s Korean War. 

 North Korea and South Korea have vowed to denuclearize the peninsula and later this year will formally end the war between the two nations that began in 1950. The nations signed an armistice when the fighting ended in 1953, but they've now agreed to pursue a proper peace agreement tied to the "common goal of realizing, through complete denuclearization, a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. 

Moon praised Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea that he has pledged a "new history" with the South Koreans. 

In 1945, Korea was divided into two zones, the north backed by the Soviet and the south backed by the Americans. In 1950 there was a war between North Korea and South Korea, the fighting ended in 1953, prisoners were exchanged but no peace treaty was ever signed. Therefore, the two Koreas continued to remain technically at war and North Korea has certain grudges against America. 

It was the first time a North Korean leader stepped on South Korean soil, and the whole world watched him, many gathered at central Seoul to watch history being made. The North Korean Leader was humble and said,? this moment has been a long time coming, same people, same blood, so we cannot be separated and should live together in unification, I hope we live together soon as a new path forward." 

The summit day was well planned, providing emotional and video-friendly moments including a red-carpet honor-guard review, planting a pine tree together, sharing a walk in the Demilitarized Zone and then a lengthy private talk at a picnic table on a newly painted bright blue bridge. 

Both leaders agreed to keep in touch by phone, to suspend propaganda broadcasts into each other's country, and to meet again in Pyongyang in the fall. The day ended with a banquet attended by the two leaders' wives, and a light show and musical performance that concluded with the delegations watching video highlights of the day edited into a show reel projected on a big screen. 

Also, both nations have agreed to expand civilian exchanges and pursue join sporting and cultural events. 

Donald Trump, who is due to meet Kim later in the coming months, hailed the summit. 

He tweeted: "After a furious year of missile launches and nuclear testing, a historic meeting between North and South Korea," he said. "Good things are happening, but only time will tell!"
