The much awaited final of the Champions League was held on Saturday between Real Madrid FC and Liverpool, and Real Madrid went on to create History to win the Champions League for the 3rd consecutive time. Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 3-1 to win the UEFA Champions League for the third straight year. Gareth Bale, who came on as a substitute in the 61st minute, scored a brace including a bicycle kick and a long range goal. Real Madrid has now won Champions League/European Cup for a record-extending 13th time.
Karim Benzema also scored for the Spanish giants, with Sadio Mane equalising for Liverpool before Bale struck twice. Only three clubs have won Europe's premier club competition in three successive seasons – Real Madrid, Ajax (1971-73) and Bayern Munich (1974-76)
The match was considered as the clash of the champions; Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah were dominated by Welsh international Gareth Bale in a 30 minute cameo after coming on the field. Bale, who came on in the 61st minute for Isco, made an immediate impact for Real Madrid and scored a sensational overhead kick to put them 2-1 ahead after Sadio Mane had leveled the score for Liverpool.
A pitch invader denied Cristiano Ronaldo a scoring opportunity in the final of the Champions League final against Liverpool on Saturday. Ronaldo, who was the highest scorer in the Champions League campaign with 15 goals, was also denied a goal by Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius after his header was saved in the first half.
Zinedine Zidane is the first coach to win three back-to-back titles. Liverpool's forward Mohamed Salah was forced off in the first half with a suspected dislocated shoulder after tangling with Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, while Real defender Dani Carvajal also left the pitch in tears after getting injured before halftime.
Zinedine Zidane says he is proud to be creating history with Real Madrid after they beat Liverpool to win a third successive Champions League title.
Zidane said: "This is a legendary club. This is a club that has won 13 European Cups so I'm happy to be part of this history, we are going to think about what we achieved, enjoy the moment first. This is the most important thing now, they can call us a dynasty”.
Real became the first side since Bayern Munich(1976) to win the trophy three years in a row.
