Harvey Weinstein surrenders later released on bail bond

Accused with sexual abuse and harassment by over 70 women, mega Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein yesterday surrendered to New York Police to face sex misconduct charges. He is expected to be charged in the case of Luca Evans, who alleged that he forced her to perform oral sex when she was an aspiring actress; Weinstein earlier had denied having non-consensual sex with anyone.

Accused with sexual abuse and harassment by over 70 women, mega Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein yesterday surrendered to New York Police to face sex misconduct charges. He is expected to be charged in the case of Luca Evans, who alleged that he forced her to perform oral sex when she was an aspiring actress; Weinstein earlier had denied having non-consensual sex with anyone. 
A flurry of allegations were made against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, The 66 year old producer was accused of sexual misconduct and the #MeToo movement went viral around the world, as women shared their harassment experiences online. Hollywood actor, Ashley Judd was one of the first women to speak out against Weinstein. #MeToo movement is sought to demonstrate and draw attention to the widespread prevalence of sexual abuse and harassment. 
What is the case? 
It is reported that primarily the case will deal with the allegations made by Lucia Evans who had detailed her accusations against Weinstein in an article in the New Yorker in October last year. 
Dozens of journalists were present at the 1st Precinct police station in Manhattan when Mr. Weinstein appeared at about 07:25 local time (11:25 GMT), dressed casually and carrying one book about director Elia Kazan and another about Rodgers and Hammerstein. The charges will stem from an investigation made by a Manhattan grand jury. Weinstein is expected to have his mug shot and fingerprints taken at the police station. 
What are the legal charges against Harvey? 
• One count of first-degree rape. 
• One count of third-degree rape. 
• One count of criminal sexual act in the first degree. 
Actress Rose McGowan wrote that some women had given up hope he would be held accountable, but now we have a good lead, she tweeted; 
"Twenty years ago, I swore that I would right this wrong. Today we are one step closer to justice." 
Meanwhile Harvey’s lawyer Benjamin Braffman told reporters that Weinstein plans to enter a not guilty plea and said he's confident his client will be exonerated. This is what he had to say; 
"My job is not to defend behavior. My job is to defend something that is criminal behavior. Bad behavior, Mr. Weinstein did not invent the casting couch in Hollywood, and to the extent that there is bad behavior in that industry that is not what this is about. Bad behavior is not on trial in this case." 
Hours after the arrest Harvey Weinstein was granted bail for $1 million in cash, the New York judge also set a staggering $10 million bond for Harvey Weinstein. He also had to surrender his passport and has to wear a GPS tracking device. 
In addition to the pending New York charges, Weinstein is also facing a Los Angeles Police Department investigation, with three accusations against the producer currently in the hands of prosecutors, as well as a lawsuit filed by Ashley Judd.
